elliatt ‘thief’ dress, jofama leather legs, samantha wills ‘moonlight moment’ earrings, RMK heels (similar)

So it totally started raining when we shot this… but a little water never hurt anyone. It topped off my week of minor casualties, including this horrible, horrible cold I’ve managed to pick up from somewhere. I guess all in due-time for winter.

Yay.

Answering emails until midnight on a Saturday evening is probably not helping my cause…

Oh well hello, colour. I have not been caught in a fiery tone ever before, but when daylight fades at 5pm you definitely need a little bit of this in your life. If colour is not your thing may I suggest some bling? This ear candy would accompany me on my (eventual, potential, if-ever-to-be) wedding day – that’s how good they are. And speaking of moonlight, I hope you all managed to catch a glimpse of my favourite silver ball in the sky tonight.

I almost howled… almost.

wild hearts run free

May 23, 2013

nike free’s from hype dc, ray-bans from sunglass spectacular, daily exfoliating cream from jurlique, earrings from forever new
all via midcity

That thing about running. It’s literally my only exercise these days, as my times at high school revolved around getting from one after-school-activity to the other : basketball, tennis, swimming, ballet, horse riding, netball, soccer, athletics – you name it and I did it. As we get older though there seems to be so many reasons to not do so much of it, or any of it, in fact. My ‘spare’ divided by my own horse, finishing school, taking advanced drawing classes, getting my driver’s license, going to endless house parties, learning the guitar and kissing boys all seemed to flow into one seamless schedule, and now when a small thing like trying to fit in an hours walk or run in the morning – is suddenly labelled ‘impossible’. What happened!?

Yes we’re all grown up now, and with that comes sensibility and responsibility. But I defend my usual hour away from my desk with the fact that not only is it ‘me’ time (in other words : loud music and mind in the sky), but it’s usually where I begin to hatch my best ideas, and find myself at my most creative. And let me tell you, having the right work out gear helps – a lot. Make it a must, pretend it’s a medicine. I don’t get around to it every day, but if you don’t – make sure it’s not because you’re making up excuses. Soon you will feel the difference, and you can thank me later.

Oh and that bling, you ask?

Well, after a run there is nothing better than a hot shower and a bit of bling. Somehow, it just feels sexy.

zara pants, topshop jumper, wayfarers by ray-ban, valentino bag

Speaking of being spoiled, I popped by ‘The Grounds’ virginity this morning with the beautiful girls of HFB with an impressive brunch and a few laughs over some damn good coffee. If you remember back when I received my first HFB care package, you will recall it arriving as a pink bundle of joy at one’s doorstep every month, tailored to you.

This morning I finally had a chance to chat to the ladies behind this genius idea, and hear the story of how it all began. With the fashion industry having taken an aggressive turn towards the snappy online platforms and various iPad apps, it’s nice to know that you can still get a tailored package with actual, real product and accessories delivered to you monthly (on trend, of course…)

Writing this with a new white leather cuff on my wrist and a fresh nail colour – Thanks HFB. Winning.

daily exfoliating cream & rose hand cream from jurlique
via midcity

When I was offered a chance to pop into Jurlique’s MidCity store for a 45 minute facial this week, I took a deep breath and looked at my endless to-do list, various phone set reminders and a calender that has taken to sticky notes as there is no free white space in it anymore – I figured that I needed an excuse to take a 45 minute break from my day and said yes. And I’m glad I did.

Conveniently in the middle of it all, not only is this the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city lights, but also a treasure chest full of tools to pamper yourself with. I’m glad I don’t work in the city because this would quickly turn dangerous – a good hand cream or a beautiful smelling oil can fix anything. I promise. After a quick consultation where I proceeded to complain about minor breakouts (this only ever happens when I am tired or stressed, hence… breakouts happening the last few weeks) – and after a quick look and feel my skin was pronounced normal but slightly sensitive. This just means I’m prone to feeling the effects of change of weather, stress, lack of hydration (H20!), and so we proceeded with 45 minutes of a deep cleanse, a purifying / hydration mask followed by a rose water mist and lifting day cream. Heaven.

With me two things followed : a daily exfoliating cream with almond, oats and honey that I’ve been instructed to use 1-2 a week, gently. The rose hand cream didn’t have a choice weather to join me or not, we are just meant to be together. As I work with my hands all the time this is how I repay them. The best advice I was given today was to keep things simple. Good quality skin care – morning and before bed. It’s really not more complicated than that.

puma shorts via rebel Sport, bardot top, nike free’s via hype dc, beanie from general pants
all via midcity

As I mentioned, fasshhuuun this season is about your body. That’s right, forget the tailoring, the tones, the shapes, the dresses and shoes for a second – this season there is major focus on YOU. The best part of it all is that the size 0 craze is so passé, now healthy and fit is the new ‘skinny’… besides, skinny was never that hot anyway. I have always been active with years of ballet and horse riding, and now make sure I fill my ‘down time’ with runs and the occasional gym visit. Fitness becomes fun with a good work out wardrobe (yes, it actually makes you want to put it on) – don’t you dare grab those old track pants and washed out tee when you’re about to get sweating. The better you feel the more you can achieve, so make an effort even before leaving the house. Apart from being good for you (at least that’s what they say), I find movement clears my mind and gives me more headspace. It might be the fact that it literally is my only hour away from a screen every day, or just the fact that I do enjoy taking out whatever frustrations I have out on the pavement in the afternoons. Whatever it is, it works.

And don’t forget : awesome tunes.

natasha gan leather legs, ray-ban eyes, banjo & matilda sweater, zara jacket, witchery heels (via midcity)

With the intent to walk out of the house in shorts this morning, I embraced my latter choice of leather pants with the echo of “damn, it’s cold today” after every hi and goodbye I got through today. Though I must admit that the Sydney sunshine tempted me to get changed several times… though that is not the luxury of a girl on the road from 7am til late at night. Lucky, that.

Let’s talk about the fact that I now own a pair of paneled leather pants that actually fit me.

As I have battled my way through endless pairs of beautiful leather tailoring that just don’t fit me one way or the other, with the common struggle being a loose waist or a length that is just not quite long enough, I am so glad to have found a new home in these babies. I strutted around in my new find all day, quite pleased. And the fact that getting ready in the morning has become so much easier thanks to a keratin treatment that I did last week makes the day so much better. This was the first time that I’ve tried it – and if you like me have unruly, long beach locks, I can guarantee that this is something for you.

Bring on winter.

I bet that owl beanie wants to get on your head, like right now. I kind of had to bring it home with me, seeing as my “mother-in-law” (unofficial) collects owls like I collect pretty images for my Tumblr. No joke. Though this little guy might find his home on someone else’s head (someone cuter than me), I have a self-confessed thing for fun accessories.

Currently sporting my trusty “BAD HAIR DAY” beanie seeing as some morning’s actually require a hat in Australia (as a Scandinavian, WHO would have know!?) and currently coveting a piece of summer for my hands to get me through until next year. Dear oh dear, why must we always complain when the season change? At least this is a good excuse to wear hats and scarves, and if you need any ideas – we’ve got you covered.

jeans, shirt & denim vest all by G-Star, scarf by ternary all via midcity

Yep that triple denim just happened. But let’s forget that awesomeness for a second and focus on this unbelievably huge and cosy scarf. I’m not a huge fan of oversized winter clothing, but when it comes to scarves the bigger the better.

If you’re like me and tend to lean towards the softer, darker and more earthy toned hues for winter, please leave room for colour in your scarf drawer. Anything pop is all well – think scarves, gloves, hats and boots; accessories have gone into colour overdrive. I love this because it leaves the rest of the dressing to a minimal (and yes, less is more)

ruby sees all

photography : nusardel oshana
styling : laura bray @ lovage magazine
hair & make up : lisa fulgitini
editing & modelling : me
wearing : ruby sees all

The week after Sydney fashion week I spent the morning in Centennial Park with the wonderful team behind Lovage Magazine, top to toe in Ruby Sees All – and shot by this incredibly talented young man.

In a quite dazed and confused state after a (to say the least) hectic week, I left myself entirely in the hands of these young, creative and talented young people, hoping for the best. Though I didn’t feel entirely comfortable in top-to-toe red lace (which I now have taken a strange, sensual liking to…) – I figured these guys knew what they wanted and what they were doing.

camilla & marc dress via the iconic, ray-ban aviators, witchery heels via midcity

In true me-fashion I was sitting sleepless by my screen a couple of days before we left for South Africa and did NOT know what to wear to my sister in law’s wedding. Disaster. Or, at least a few years ago, it would have been. Going to desperate measures and rummaging through my IKEA bags that have neatly been packed for my up-coming market day, in hope to find a sweet little number that I had not yet worn. After an hour later and nothing at hand, I decided to take to the world wide web and pin down anyone with fast delivery. Trust these guys to come to my rescue.

And what is appropriate to wear to a wedding anyway? My fail-proof black and white formula would obviously not do the trick here, and god forbid if you try to out-shine the bride (not that this would even have been a possibility on the day, as all of our jaws dropped to the ground when we saw her…) So what then. Slightly lost in my own cloud of wedding-fashion do’s and don’ts I naturally began browsing through some of my favourite labels and stumbled upon this dress. I didn’t think twice.
